The Local Authority is responsible for all admissions. Current PAN (Pupil Admission Number) of the
school is 60 for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

During the Autumn term, approximately ten months prior to a child starting school the following
September, an information pack will be sent by the LEA to each family living in the designated area.
For children wishing to join Blackwell Primary School in Year R, the pack will contain up to date
information about the school, the LEA and details of the services they provide, plus a form inviting
parents to indicate their preference for the school(s) they wish their child to attend. The form
should be returned to either Blackwell Primary School or Pupil Admissions Office, County Hall North,
as soon as possible. Applications can be made on line.
Interested parents will be invited to view the school during the Autumn term prior to their child
starting school. Children start at Blackwell Primary School at the beginning of the academic year
(September) in which their fifth birthday falls.
Parents living outside the designated area of Blackwell Primary School, wishing to send their child to
the school, will receive a similar pack of information from Pupil Admissions Office, County Hall North,
or, if they live out of the County, from the County’s Education Office.
A formal offer of a school place will be made by the LEA to the parents in the middle of February.
Parents who confirm they would like a place at the school for their child will be invited to attend an
evening meeting and a further meeting in school time. The pupils will be invited to attend three
introductory visits during the school day towards the end of the Summer term.
The School Admissions Code of Practice requires children and young people with Special Educational
Needs ( SEN) to be treated fairly. At Blackwell we endeavour to cater for all children, in partnership
with parents, to make the provision required to meet the SEN needs of the pupil. For a child with an
Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), the local authority will consult the governors about the
suitability of the school and any specialist provision to be delivered.
When applying for a place in Years 1 to 6, it is customary for parents to view the school and discuss
the move with the Headteacher. Applications for places in these Year Groups should be made via the
Local Authority Admissions Office and not be directed to the school. The telephone number for the

Should a particular Year Group be full, then the pupil will be placed on a waiting list. Parents will be
notified when a place becomes available.
